Course: Younger Readers or Those Newer to Theology

[This course of Finis Dake is written at a little easier to understand reading level with theological terms explained more than the other two courses.  This can help younger readers or readers without a stronger theological understanding to understand the ideas better.]

Have you ever used a study Bible? They can be super helpful, with notes that explain tricky verses. One very popular study Bible is the Dake Annotated Reference Bible, written by a man named Finis Jennings Dake. It has thousands and thousands of notes, and many people have used it to learn about God.

But just because something is in a book—even a book about the Bible—doesn’t automatically make it true. It’s always important to be like the Bereans in the book of Acts and check what we’re taught against what the Bible actually says. When we look closely at Mr. Dake’s teachings, we find that many of his ideas don’t match up with Scripture. He taught some confusing things about who God is, who Jesus is, and how we are saved. These ideas are called “doctrines,” which just means “teachings.” Sadly, some of his teachings were also very wrong and hurtful about people of different races.

In this course, we’re going to learn how to spot these errors. We’ll look at what Mr. Dake taught and then look at what the Bible teaches, so you can see the difference for yourself. Learning to tell the difference between true and false teaching is one of the most important skills a Christian can have. Our goal is to help you grow strong in your faith and to love the real Jesus of the Bible more than ever!
